Not all of the stars at Hollywood Center Studios are in the movie business. Love That Dog Hollywood! is an Animal Rescue and Media Organization that operates from a small office on the studio lot. Founded by actor and animal activist Addie Daddio, Love that Dog Hollywood, rescues, saves and re-homes abandoned, stray and surrendered animals from high-kill shelters in Los Angeles City and County. The group’s goal is to bring awareness to the estimated 33,000 companion animals that are killed every year and to help make Los Angeles a no-kill, community and safe haven for all animals. They also create media to encourage people to adopt from local shelters and Daddio hosts Love that Dog Hollywood! The Radio Show! on Wednesdays from 2pm to 4 p.m.
Love that Dog Hollywood! has been supported by Hollywood Center Studios for the past five years and recently moved to a permanent home on the studio lot. Since that time, Daddio estimates, adoption rates have increased by 300 percent. With the support of everyone at Hollywood Center Studios, LTDH has averaged placing 10 dogs per week with new owners or fosters. “Having a daily presence on the lot has given us an opportunity to show our dogs, share our message and grow as an organization; it’s also enabled our vision of saving more lives,” says Daddio. “It has given us a foundation, home base and the credibility to become an animal rescue go-to organization.”
Love That Dog Hollywood hosts small adoption events on studio grounds on a regular basis. They’ve proven to be a big hit with people working on the lot, with guests and, of course, with the dogs. “Every day people come by to see the dogs, pet them and walk them,” Daddio observes. “It’s a stress reliever!”
A recent visit to Hollywood Center Studios and Love that Dog Hollywood! by longtime animal lover, activist and supporter Betty White brought more much needed awareness to homeless animals on death row. Hollywood Center Studio is also host to Love that Dog Hollywood!’s annual Family Fun Day event that includes adoptions, a dog show and a dog costume contest. Held in partnership with the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Services and Best Friends Animal Society, last year’s event resulted in an on-site adoption of 40 dogs.
Love That Dog Hollywood! operates with an all-volunteer staff and relies on donations from animal lovers to meet its expenses. Daddio says that the organization is growing steadily and expects next December’s event to be its biggest ever. But there’s no reason to wait until then to give a dog a new home.
