TV Land Finds a Home for "Retired" at Hollywood Center Studios

TV Land has, with great success, tapped into America's love affair with the classic TV sitcoms and dramas to become one of the country's most popular cable channels. In June, it took the next logical step, introducing its first original series, "Hot in Cleveland," starring Betty White, and wound up with its own instant classic.

As a follow up, TV Land is set to begin production of another original production comedy series, "Retired at 35." It stars George Segal as a party-loving retiree whose 35-year-old son David (Johnathan McClain) quits the rat race and moves into his Florida retirement home with him. The series, which will shoot before a live audience on Stage 4 at Hollywood Center Studios, debuts in January. "It's a great family show for those of us who've tried the you-can-never-go-home-again theory," says Franco Bario, the show's executive producer.

In preparation for the show, Bario conducted an extensive search and selected Hollywood Center Studios as home for the new show because of its location and because its sound stages are ideally suited to shooting multi-camera comedies with a live audience.

"It's a great set up for us," Bario notes. "We like the environment here and it's convenient for cast and crew coming from the Westside and the Valley," he said. "We also look forward to establishing our production offices in the newly-refurbished Bungalow A."

It's only fitting that TV Land should establish a Los Angeles presence at Hollywood Center Studios as so many of the classic shows featured on the network, including "The Beverly Hillbillies" and "Everybody Loves Raymond," were originally produced here.
